DSWF - Wildlife Artist of The Year 2010

Title White Tiger
Name

Limei Shimmen

Medium batik on silk
Approx Size 200cm x 100cm
Price £1,000

Limei lives in Singapore where she studied oil painting and figure drawing. She creates fine art batiks inspired by the beauty of wild animal skins, aiming to capture them "live" in her own interpretation in 2D form, showing movement and the animals' characteristics. With her creations she hopes to create more awareness of the plight of wild animals which are only killed for the sake of fashion and décor. She won last year's Wildlife Artist of the Year 2009, Open Category award. Batik is an indigenous art in South East Asia, and she uses the traditional method of tjanting with wax, dyeing, fixing and the repeat process to achieve the result she desires.
