Since graduating in 1998 Mark has continued to
paint and sculpt, exhibiting locally in Cumbria, nationally,
and internationally. Perhaps prompted by the threat to the
Arctic, Mark's recent work has taken on a Northern theme depicting
creatures of forest and tundra and referencing prehistoric
art. Animals such as reindeer and bison are presented inhabiting
a diminished, fractured environment. As winter approaches
reindeer migrate from tundra to forest, unsustainable logging
is diminishing these winter refuges. Both reindeer and the
snow bunting depicted in the sculpture migrate, the theme
of migration is explored as a metaphor for our journey though
life.
