John Ashton lives and works in the small South Devon village of Aveton Gifford on the beautiful estuary of the River Avon. Born in Somerset, he worked mainly as a lighting roadie for some of the world's major bands. In 1985 he moved to Devon, taking on many commissions including murals and pub signs. In 2006 he decided to concentrate on oil painting and since then he has had several successful exhibitions. His skills are diverse and he has a mesmerising talent for capturing the true essence of his subjects using his haunting interpretation of light.
